Pinot Gris – Edition “P”

Art.-Nr.: 24

Edition “P” is the new line with vines from our best site, the Pfaffenberg. On this southern slope with slightly chalky and sandy, loamy soil, grow the highest quality wines of our wine village. Since the 14th century, the Speyer monastery has planted vineyards on this piece of land. This is how the slope got its name, “Pfaffenberg” (Pfaffe is an old german word for priest). The Pinot Gris makes high demands on its location. A little bit of minerality, a sort-typical, full bouquet, it belongs not only with us to the premium varieties. One of the most lasting white wines of our winery.

Drinking suggestions

This Spätlese harmonizes well with seafood, strong sea fish, pasta, young game as well as ripe soft cheese. It is also suitable with intense tasting lamb dishes and light game dishes, such as wild fowl or venison.

The vine

This white grape is a mutation of the blue Pinot Noir, discovered by accident in 1711 in an untended garden, by the merchant Johann Seger Ruland from Speyer. Therefore, this variety was also called Ruländer. The must weight is about 10° Oechsle higher than that of Riesling and the acidity value is about 4-5 g/l lower. Due to its characteristics, it can produce excellent Spätlese as well as Auslese.
